Brake Upgrades for Street and Track Use

Understanding Brake Fade
Brake fade occurs when braking components overheat from repeated heavy use, causing a drastic loss in stopping power. Upgrading brakes is primarily about increasing thermal capacity and heat dissipation rather than simply reducing stopping distance (which is largely determined by tyre grip).
Upgrading Brake Pads
The most effective and affordable upgrade is a set of performance brake pads. Street performance pads offer better bite and higher temperature thresholds than standard OEM pads. Track-focused pads can withstand extreme heat but may squeal and wear quickly when cold on the street.
Rotors: Blank, Slotted, or Drilled?
Blank rotors are excellent for most applications because they offer maximum surface area and structural integrity. Slotted rotors help wipe away brake dust and gases, maintaining a clean pad surface. Drilled rotors look aggressive and offer minor cooling benefits, but are prone to cracking under extreme track use.
Big Brake Kits (BBK)
A Big Brake Kit replaces the factory calipers and rotors with larger, multi-piston calipers and oversized rotors. This provides massive thermal capacity for track days and a firmer pedal feel. However, BBKs are expensive and may require larger wheels to clear the calipers.
